How To Write An Ad That Gets You New Clients (Part 1)

Let’s be real for a sec.

Most ads suck.

Not because they’re ugly.

Not because they’re boring.

Not even because they were written by someone’s cousin who “knows Canva.”

They suck because they don’t get clients.

You’d be surprised how many businesses run ads that:

  • Look cool

  • Win awards

  • Get compliments from their mom

But don’t make a single sale.

And here’s the truth:

If your ad doesn’t get you calls, clients, and cash, then it’s not an ad.

It’s art. Congrats, you’re now a starving artist.

Ads Aren’t About “Creativity” — They’re About Clarity

Let’s say you own a gym.

You want more people through the doors.

Do you think your ideal customer wants to watch a 3-minute cinematic masterpiece of someone doing burpees on a rooftop in slow-mo?

Or…

Would they rather see something like:

👉 “Want to drop 10lbs before summer? Grab your FREE 7-day gym pass right now.”

Which one are they clicking?

Hint: It ain’t the moody burpee montage.

The First Step — Who TF Are You Talking To?

Every ad starts with one question:

“Who do I want as a client?”

Let’s take one of mine.

I run TM Marketing. I help small to medium business owners run paid ads, build real brands on social, and design websites that actually convert.

So when I run ads?

I don’t waste time saying:

“Let’s unlock the limitless potential of your digital presence.”

Nope. I go straight for the jugular:

“Own a business? Want more clients without wasting hours on TikTok dances and praying for likes? Download my FREE Meta Ads guide — I’ll show you how.”

That’s how you cut through noise.

Your ad should be like a good salesman — not a performer.

And a good salesman doesn’t dance around the point.

He walks right up, smiles, and says:

“Hey — do you want more clients?”

If they say yes, you’re in.

Stuck on What to Say? Start With This Line:

Let’s say you’re advertising:

  • A massage studio

  • A landscaping biz

  • A coaching program

  • Even a dog groomer

Start with:

“Are you [insert pain point or goal]?”

Here are a few examples:

🟢 “Tired of back pain and looking for relief?”

🟢 “Own a business but struggling to get noticed online?”

🟢 “Wish your backyard looked like it belonged in a magazine?”

That’s how you start a conversation.

You don’t need to be clever.

You need to be clear.

This Is Just Part 1…

This is a great start for your winning ad. In part 2, we are going to build on this and flesh out our ad.

But for now, I’ll leave you with this:

Simple wins.

Clear beats clever.

And a straight-up ad will always out-convert a cute one.

Talk soon,

Tony
